Selecting the German Platoon for Chain of Command

Selecting the German platoon was easier as I chose a force on mostly equal footing to the Soviet platoon. The biggest difference in the two platoons is that the German squads come with a machine gun and a rifle team element built in. This gives them a big advantage when they are on the table as they can, if needed, activate a team if they don’t roll any squad dice.

The other thing I noticed is that the command section comes with an anti-tank team. So on paper, this makes the German platoon look stronger in terms of flexibility. It’s interesting to note that the anti-tank team comes with the senior leader as only the senior leader can order them to shoot at non-vehicle targets.

The other thing to note is that the force rating for the Soviet team is lower. This will allow them to pick support from a higher list than the German Platoon. This can big a game changer as the Soviet Platoon may have access to vehicles when the German player would not. Good thing they come with an anti-tank team.

A comment that I had on youtube was it does not good to select from the support list until you know what the opponent is taking. My thought on that though is you may never know what they are taking. That is the problem to overcome when creating a force. Your opponent does not have to reveal what they are taking until you get to the table. It is completely possible to roll for lists prior to the game starting based on your chosen scenario. You run the risk of not knowing what your opponent has until you start placing deployments to the table.

Soon I’ll be posting up some video of our first game what the learning experience is like while playing.
